Speaker

Dr. Sandra Jackson

Dr. Jackson was first introduced to police psychology as an MA-level trainee after 9/11, when the Canadian government responded by legislating armed security units into our nuclear power plants. In developing and identifying competencies for selection, she participated in the process of meeting with subject matter experts, observing training and work sites, reviewing the literature, and looking at successes and problems that helped outline bona fide job criteria for this work. Since 2013, when she was licensed to practice autonomously, she has continued to conduct pre-employment assessments for nuclear security as well as for police officers, communicators, and firefighters. Dr. Jackson also has experience conducting selection assessments for specialized military groups such as source handlers, interrogators, and close protection officers. In addition to pre-employment selection screenings, Dr. Jackson has experience conducting fitness-for-duty evaluations and providing safeguard interventions for various police departments in Ontario. She also has a long history of providing treatment for a range of issues, including trauma, depression, anxiety, and problematic behaviors often related to anger, boundary violations, and sexual acting out.

As a forensic psychologist, Dr. Jackson also has experience working with offenders and the criminal justice system. She conducts assessments of offenders for the courts and the provincial and federal correctional systems.
